Typeless runs on Windows, but its free plan has a word limit and unlimited use needs the paid Pro plan. PipeVoice is a free, open-source alternative for Windows 10 and 11: no word limit, no account, and an offline mode.

What Typeless offers
From Typeless's own site: it lists macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android as supported platforms. Its pricing page shows a Free plan with "Limited words" and standard accuracy, and a Pro plan at $12 a month billed yearly or $30 a month billed monthly, with "Unlimited words", enhanced accuracy and cloud sync. Its site says dictations are processed with "zero data retention". The pages we checked do not say whether Typeless works offline, and do not mention open-source licensing. The free tier's exact word limit is not published on the pricing page.

No word limit, no subscription
PipeVoice does not meter words. The core tool is free and stays free. If you choose a cloud engine you pay that provider directly on your own key, roughly pennies a day; Local Whisper needs no key and costs nothing. There is no account and no telemetry, so there is no service of ours between you and your text.
Keep it on your PC

Where Typeless is the better pick
- Phones and other desktops. Typeless lists iOS, Android, macOS and Linux; PipeVoice is Windows only.
- Managed, no keys. Its Pro plan is a hosted service. PipeVoice's cloud engines need your own API key, and Local Whisper is slower than cloud.
- Cloud sync and team features are listed on Typeless's Pro plan.
